Hundreds of homes have been evacuated, trains have been cancelled and two bridges have been swept away by surging floodwaters.

All this after as much as a month’s worth of rain fell in the last couple of days, with more flood warnings in force across much of the country from Cornwall to Edinburgh.
Dumfries is one of the hardest hit areas.
Several properties in Dalbeattie were inundated while two footbridges in Annan collapsed as waters rose on Thursday evening.
