Crisis? What crisis? The Transport Secretary assures us that there is no shortage of petrol

James Callaghan’s refusal to acknowledge that Britain faced a crisis in January 1979, during the so-called ‘Winter of discontent’, led inexorably to Margaret Thatcher’s election victory four months later. The present British government seems to be similarly blind to the crisis which the rest of us can see unfolding. Grant Shapps assures us that there is plenty of fuel in refineries and storage facilities. He apparently does not realise that this is of no use to motorists.
