'Grave concern' over far-west and western NSW regions

NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro says there is still "grave concern" for the far-west and western regional areas of the state.

He said there were 38 new COVID cases in the Western NSW Local Health District.

“There were 32 in Dubbo, two in Bathurst ... there are two in Wellington, one in Walgett and one in Narromine,” Mr Barilaro said.

He said in the Far West NSW Local Health District there were 14 cases recorded, with 12 cases in Wilcannia and two in Broken Hill.

He said the cases in Wilcannia remain a concern due to a gathering which had occurred.

“Lockdown and restrictions put in place in the regions and the extension of those lockdowns has actually protected that community, more importantly, lowered case numbers.

“It’s a great example of the local health district, the team on the ground, but also the community doing the right thing."
