Are CMOs More Complex than Standard Pharma Companies?

“Science happens at Lonza”, says Kurt while explaining the complexities that are dealt with within a CMO. Even though the original pharma companies do extensive research and development on their end to find the right molecule, that does not mean that the job of CMOs is straightforward. Manufacturing is as complex as R&D, if not more, but in a different way. Everything from producing the API, manufacturing in bulk while maintaining quality, to the critical studies and scale-up involves complexities that are handled by the CMO.
