Buster the partially deaf Dalmatian - 3 Weeks Residential Dog Training

Buster the 1.5 Year old Dalmatian has completed his 3 week residential stay with us

Buster is a lucky boy to have been rescued by his current family, they love him so much and enjoy all his quirks. They have been struggling with a few behaviours, so thought Buster should have a little holiday whilst they are away too and learn some better manners.

Buster is half deaf, so this has been an extra added challenge to his already poor recall. Buster has spent his stay working really hard on voice and whistle training, so we can improve his recall. Buster benefits lots from the longline, as he finds the outside world very stimulating. He has made great progress with his recall and with ongoing upkeep, will definitely continue with his off lead privileges.

Buster is also a very social boy, but this made his hearing very selective, with dogs around he would want to say hi and engage immediately ignoring us, Buster is now much more focused around dogs and with his food drive being much better now, he really enjoys working in these hard environments. Buster can now complete a range of obedience cues around others dogs, as well as pass them when on lead without obsessing and trying to get to them. Buster has also had a few wins from local picnic’s, so we have focused lots on training in these situations so that Buster knows he can no longer go and steal yummy human food.

We have also been working really hard on Busters lead walking skills. Buster is a very strong boy and this caused him to use his weight very smartly to get to where he wanted. We have been working hard on Buster learning the value of being by our side and staying with us for portions of his walk. Buster is now much more reliable in busy settings and will happily walk by us when we ask him to.
