MESSI’S MESSAGE TO LEWANDOWSKI IMPRESSED THE WHOLE WORLD! Why weren't there two Ballon d'Or awards?

Hello friends! It is now official! Lionel Messi won the Ballon d'Or award for the 7th time, while Robert Lewandowski was again left with nothing. We sincerely congratulate the Argentine, but still note that the Pole's failure is a huge misunderstanding for the entire football world, ‘cause even Messi himself admitted that his competitor should have received the prize from France Football.

«It's an honour to compete with you, Robert. You deserve your Ballon d’Or. Last year, everyone was in agreement to say that you were the big winner», Lionel said.

But anyway, the voting results indicated that Messi has 613 points while Lewandowski just 580. So let's just go through all the numbers they had this year!

From January 2020 to October 2021, Messi played 49 matches for his clubs and the national team, in which he scored 40 goals and made 16 assists. During this period, Lionel won the Copa del Rey and Copa America, as well as the trophy of the La Liga top scorer at the end of the previous season. And let's not forget about Copa America’s Golden Boot and the title of the best player in the tournament. We must admit that the fact that Messi keeps doing crazy things on the pitch at 34 is more than impressive!

But let's have a look at Robert Lewandowski's performance over the same period. From January 2020 to October 2021, the striker scored as many as 111 goals and gave 25 assists for Bayern Munich and Poland national team. During that time, the Pole won 7 trophies, including the Bundesliga, twice, the German Cup, the German Super Cup, the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup, and the World Club Championship. And don't forget about the entire list of individual awards he has - those are both UEFA and FIFA player of the year, and the first place in the lists of all the most reputable football organizations and publications, except for France Football. Nobody came even closer to his achievements, right?

Well, fine, this is the story of 2020, but did Robert perform worse in 2021? Hell no! This year he has 64 goals and 9 assists in 54 matches, another victory in the Bundesliga, broke Gerd Müller's record, and had an unconditional leader in the race of the best European goalscorers. However, at the Ballon d’Or ceremony, Lewandowski was recognized as the best striker in the world and nothing more, despite his another super productive year. And that’s it?! France Football, are you guys serious?!

Even if we won’t continue comparing Robert and Messi's performances, it’s still not clear why they refused to give two Ballon d'Or at once... Owing to the sudden outbreak in 2020, the previous ceremony has been cancelled so Lewandowski was deprived of an obvious victory. But was it so difficult to fix this misunderstanding at least now?

A few days before the Ballon d'Or ceremony, there were rumours on the web that France Football is going to introduce two new awards. So there was a hope that one of them will be just that postponed Ballon d’Or prize for the year 2020. But in reality, there was nothing of the kind and this is terribly unfair to Robert...

No wonder that now football fans are actively reposting his four-year-old tweet, in which Robert ridicules the organization that gives the Ballon d'Or. He seemed to be predicting the strange decisions of France Football even then. And now the Pole himself has become a victim of the organizers' controversial decisions. This is so ironic and sad!

The main conclusion is that the Ballon d’Or award must be completely cancelled in order to come up with a new clear and fair system with rational criteria, and objective voting of experts who we know at least anything about.

We would like to believe that such a reform will really take place someday, because it’s pretty obvious that the award begins to lose its value from one year to another, and it becomes more and more difficult to understand the true conditions for winning it.

Either way, let’s congratulate Lionel Messi on another great victory; and as for Robert Lewandowski, we wish him not to be upset and keep playing at the same unbelievable level! We’re sure he will!
