The Australian’s Cameron Stewart says there are questions as to why Joe Biden said he thought the French knew the submarine contract was terminated.
President Biden told French President Macron he was under the impression that France had been informed long before that the deal would not come through.
It comes after French President Emmanuel Macron – on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Rome – accused Prime Minister Scott Morrison of being a liar.
“There’s a lot of games being played here,” Mr Stewart told Sky News Australia.
“Joe Biden’s advisers definitely knew that contract had not been terminated.
“They had a 15-page document which was a timeline of exactly how it was going to be announced to the world.
“They certainly knew that the contract hadn’t been terminated.”
