
Standing dumbbell external rotations are an extremely common shoulder exercise people perform in the gym before their muscle building workouts as a warm up. Unfortunately it's a totally useless exercise. In order for this shoulder warm up to be effective, the resistance needs to be pulling from the side. With this version, gravity is pulling it straight down to the floor. If you want to use this rotator cuff exercise before jumping into your bodybuilding workout for building muscle, use a cable, resistance band or perform it lying on your side with a single dumbbell.
