Armdrag problems: the arm drag is an unparalleled way to create an outside position and generate back exposure from the guard. One of the things that can interrupt your successful arm drag from the seated guard is when your partner steps the same-side leg up for base. That leg serves as an impediment to your forward motion, helps them maintain posture and keeps their back a long way away from your reach. Our solution: remembering that the arm drag is a great way to attack the legs!
We look at 3 cases where our partner puts their lead leg up and starts to create problem for us: first is the leg in the outside position, then mid-range on the inside, and finally close range on the inside. For each of these, the resistance to the arm drag creates leg exposure which allows us to enter right into our ashi-garami attacks.
