Xherdan Shaqiri's debut for Lyon was hugely positive.

The bulky Swiss attacker started the French team's Ligue 1 match versus Strasbourg last Sunday and helped achieve a 3-1 victory.

Shaqiri even produced the assist for Lyon's second goal in the 64th-minute of play, with the former Liverpool man's inch-perfect cross headed in by Jason Denayer.

It's great to see Shaqiri starting football matches and making key contributions, because he really is a wonderfully talented footballer.

On his day, the 29-year-old is world-class and a player capable of making the very best defenders on the planet look silly.

He's also a very popular guy, which is further highlighted in footage of his first Lyon assist from the stands.

The video captured by a fan shows the incredible reception Shaqiri received from the home team's supporters while getting ready to take a corner, something which he acknowledged with a thumbs up.

Unsurprisingly, the fans went absolutely bonkers when his cross was met powerfully by Denayer's head and you can check out the fantastic footage for yourself below.
