Black August is a once-a-year celebration to honor Black freedom fighters.
One such online exhibition honoring this legacy is called “Umi’s Archive,” curated by anthropologist Su'ad Abdul Khabeer “Umi” means mother in Arabic, the title meaning “mother’s archive,” and according to their website, it “is a multimedia research project [that] digs deep into the life of one woman, Amina Amatul Haqq (1950-2017), neé Audrey Weeks, to explore the meanings of being Black in the world.” Haqq was a big advocate for Black political prisoners.
Khabeer, who is Haqq’s daughter, joins Marc Lamont Hill on “Black News Tonight” to talk about the exhibition.
All this and more on “Black News Tonight.”
